It can however, replace agar in other applications, too.Polymerisation of GELRITE\u003csup\u003e®\u003c\/sup\u003e is enhanced in the presence of (bivalent) kations. It is therefore supplemented by MgCl\u003csub\u003e2\u003c\/sub\u003e if a solid gel structure is required. Elevated salt concentrations increase gelling temperature (e.g. 500 mM Na\u003csup\u003e+\u003c\/sup\u003e to approx. 68 °C with 1 % GELRITE\u003csup\u003e®\u003c\/sup\u003e).
