Elles sont également applicables à l'analyse microbiologique d'échantillons en général. Les germes des échantillons liquides faiblement germés attendus sont concentrés par filtration membranaire. Ensuite, la membrane est placée sur le milieu et incubée. L'utilisation d'une membrane avec une grille aide à compter les colonies résultantes.
