Hierdoor kan het volledige zichtbare kleurenspectrum worden bestreken met quantum dots van verschillende afmetingen, maar van hetzelfde materiaal. De mogelijkheid om de grootte van de deeltjes tijdens de productie te controleren, maakt het mogelijk hun elektronische en fluorescerende eigenschappen nauwkeurig in te stellen. Deze quantum dots zijn gemakkelijk dispergeerbaar in hexaan, cyclohexaan, tolueen, chloroform, THF, pyridine en soortgelijke oplosmiddelen, maar niet in water, alcoholen en ethers. De producten worden geleverd als poeder in 2 ml flesjes met septum. Hierdoor kunnen de quantum dots direct in het flesje met het gewenste oplosmiddel worden gedispergeerd.
