Description
Mechanical scale TJ2611 is a Triple Beam™ Junior mechanical balance with a 150 mm weighing pan, a maximum load of 2,61 kg and a readability of 0,0001 kg in a full-resolution single-range design. Notched and graduated beams make measured values easy to read. A zero-balance compensator helps set the instrument to zero so that weighing results remain accurate. All the advantages of a triple-beam balance are retained in a format suited to younger students. The unit can be secured to a desk or workbench with a security ring or Kensington lock (available separately) to reduce the risk of theft or accidental drops. Overall dimensions are 161 mm width, 168 mm height and 451 mm depth; net and gross weight are each 3,175 kg. Supplied as one piece from manufacturer Ohaus, this mechanical scale is intended for teaching and general laboratory weighing tasks where a robust, non-electronic triple-beam instrument is preferred.
This article is part of Precision balances, in Balances & scales. See also Analytical balances.

Questions about Mechanical Scale, TJ2611
What is this article?
Mechanical Scale, TJ2611 is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Ohaus for laboratory use. It sits in Precision balances, inside Balances & scales, in Lab instruments.
A precision balance reads more coarsely than an analytical balance, often 1 mg or 10 mg, and it takes a heavier pan load. It is the balance for preparing bulk reagents. Draft, level and a warm-up still move the last digit.
A balance compares a mass with a standard. An analytical balance reads to 0.1 mg or finer and needs a draft shield and a stable bench. A precision balance is coarser and faster. A platform scale takes a heavier load. The reading is only as good as the calibration chain back to the kilogram, which is why test weights and a certificate exist. A moisture analyser is a balance with a heater: it records the loss of mass as water leaves. The unit of mass is kept by the BIPM, compared across Europe by EURAMET, and accredited by BELAC. NIST publishes the same measurement foundations.
