Description
Analogue refractometer KERN ORA 2PA is a universal, maintenance-free handheld refractometer for refractive index measurement in laboratories and industry. This ORA-P series model is especially suited to measuring specific urine gravity (density), serum protein content in urine and refractive index, supporting work in hospitals, medical practices, training facilities, care homes and sports medicine including doping control. From manufacturer Kern, the handy robust design enables simple, efficient and durable daily use. Multiple selectable scales avoid manual conversion and help exclude application errors; the scales are specially developed, exactly calculated and verified, with very thin, clear lines. The optical system and prism cover use special materials for low-tolerance measuring, and the eyepiece adjusts smoothly to different visual acuities. Automatic temperature compensation (ATC) supports exact measurements at ambient temperatures from 10 °C to 30 °C. Scope of delivery includes storage box, calibration solution, pipette, screwdriver and cleaning cloth; further accessories are optional. Net weight is 0,30 kg for convenient handheld clinical and laboratory checks.

Questions about Analogue Refractometer KERN ORA 2PA
What is this article?
Analogue Refractometer KERN ORA 2PA is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes KERN for laboratory use. It sits in Refractometers & polarimeters, inside Spectroscopy & photometry, in Lab instruments.
A refractometer reads the refractive index of a liquid, often expressed as Brix for sugar. A polarimeter reads the rotation of polarised light. Both depend on temperature. A handheld refractometer and a thermostated benchtop instrument are different accuracies.
A photometer or spectrophotometer sends light through a sample and reads how much was absorbed. In the range where the Beer–Lambert relation holds, absorbance tracks concentration. A refractometer reads how a liquid bends light, which tracks dissolved solids. A polarimeter reads the rotation of polarised light, the classical measurement for sugars. The lamp, the wavelength and the cuvette path length are the three things that have to be right before the number means anything. The optical quantities trace to NIST and the BIPM.
