Description

The analogue refractometer KERN ORA 3HA is a universal, maintenance-free handheld instrument for refractive index measurement in laboratories and industry. Multiple selectable scales remove the need for manual conversion and help exclude application errors; the scales are specially developed, precisely calculated and verified, and feature very fine, clear lines. The optical system and prism cover are made from special materials that support low-tolerance measuring. An eyepiece with simple, smooth adjustment accommodates different visual acuities. Automatic temperature compensation (ATC) enables accurate measurements at ambient temperatures from 10 °C to 30 °C. Delivered with a storage box, calibration block, contact liquid, pipette, screwdriver and cleaning cloth, this model from manufacturer Kern is particularly suited to measuring Brix value, water content in honey and Baumé degrees (°Bé) for the relative density of liquids. Principal application areas are beekeeping and honey production. The handy, robust design supports simple, efficient everyday use; further accessories are optionally available. Pack size: 1 pc.

Questions about Analogue Refractometer KERN ORA 3HA

What is this article?

Analogue Refractometer KERN ORA 3HA is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes KERN for laboratory use. It sits in Refractometers & polarimeters, inside Spectroscopy & photometry, in Lab instruments.

A refractometer reads the refractive index of a liquid, often expressed as Brix for sugar. A polarimeter reads the rotation of polarised light. Both depend on temperature. A handheld refractometer and a thermostated benchtop instrument are different accuracies.

A photometer or spectrophotometer sends light through a sample and reads how much was absorbed. In the range where the Beer–Lambert relation holds, absorbance tracks concentration. A refractometer reads how a liquid bends light, which tracks dissolved solids. A polarimeter reads the rotation of polarised light, the classical measurement for sugars. The lamp, the wavelength and the cuvette path length are the three things that have to be right before the number means anything. The optical quantities trace to NIST and the BIPM.
