Description

Portable Refractometer for Ethylene Glycol HI96831 is a digital instrument that determines the volume content and freezing point of ethylene glycol mixtures by refractive index measurement. Simple to operate, it delivers precise readings within seconds on a large dual-line display controlled by only a few keys. The stainless steel sample well requires just two drops of sample, and calibration is performed with distilled or deionized water. Automatic temperature compensation from 0 to 40 °C and a response time of about 1,5 seconds support efficient workflows. Ranges cover 0 to 100 % volume content, freezing points from 0 to −50 °C, and temperatures from 0,0 to 80,0 °C, with 0,1 % and 0,1 °C resolution and accuracies of ±0,2 % volume, ±0,5 °C freezing point and ±0,3 °C. A yellow LED, stainless steel ring and glass prism form the measuring cell inside an IP65 waterproof housing. BEPS protection, automatic shut-off after three minutes and a 9 V battery for roughly 5000 hours complete the package. At 192 × 102 × 67 mm and 420 g, this unit from manufacturer Hanna Instruments suits laboratory and field glycol analysis.

Questions about Digital refractometer for ethylene glycol

What is this article?

Digital refractometer for ethylene glycol is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Hanna Instruments for laboratory use. It sits in Refractometers & polarimeters, inside Spectroscopy & photometry, in Lab instruments.

A refractometer reads the refractive index of a liquid, often expressed as Brix for sugar. A polarimeter reads the rotation of polarised light. Both depend on temperature. A handheld refractometer and a thermostated benchtop instrument are different accuracies.

A photometer or spectrophotometer sends light through a sample and reads how much was absorbed. In the range where the Beer–Lambert relation holds, absorbance tracks concentration. A refractometer reads how a liquid bends light, which tracks dissolved solids. A polarimeter reads the rotation of polarised light, the classical measurement for sugars. The lamp, the wavelength and the cuvette path length are the three things that have to be right before the number means anything. The optical quantities trace to NIST and the BIPM.
