Description

DURAN® Filter crucible, 8 ml, porosity 4 is a stemless laboratory filter designed for solid-liquid separation and purification under vacuum. Filtration ranks among the most important separation techniques in the laboratory, requiring filters matched to the application by size and porosity. This crucible incorporates a sintered glass disc that acts as the permanent filter medium, eliminating the need for separate filter paper. Unlike conventional filter funnels it has no stem, allowing the vessel to stand securely on the bench and enabling subsequent steps such as drying the retained solid residue directly in a vacuum desiccator. The body tapers towards the base, reducing the risk of contaminating the rubber sleeve. Made from DURAN® borosilicate glass 3.3 by Duran/DWK Life Sciences, the crucible combines proven chemical resistance with high thermal shock resistance and carries a permanently fired white print. It is suited to qualitative analysis, preparative chemistry, isolation and further processing of the filter cake, and filtration at reduced pressure. Compatible rubber sleeves and filter adapters are available separately. The product is supplied in packs of 10 pieces with a net weight of 0,015 kg per crucible.

Questions about DURAN® Filter Crucible

What is this article?

DURAN® Filter Crucible is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes DWK Life Sciences for laboratory use. It sits in Crucibles, inside Dishes, crucibles & porcelain, in Labware.

A crucible holds a sample in a furnace or over a flame, at temperatures that would soften a borosilicate beaker. Porcelain, platinum and glazed ceramic are different articles. The form, tall or wide, decides how fast a sample dries or ashes.

A dish is an open vessel for drying, evaporating or holding a solid. Porcelain and glazed ceramic take a higher temperature than borosilicate glass, which is why a crucible, not a beaker, goes into a furnace. A watch glass covers, or holds a small amount for drying. A mortar is for grinding. The temperature and the chemical, not the shape alone, choose the material. Laboratory ware of this family is listed under ISO laboratory ware.
