Description

DURAN® round-bottom flask NS 24/29 with 250 ml nominal volume is a versatile laboratory vessel manufactured from borosilicate glass 3.3. Round-bottom flasks are frequently employed in laboratory settings thanks to their wide range of uses. Media inside the flask can be heated by heating mantles or liquid baths and cooled in cold baths; localised heating or cooling must be avoided. The rounded shape also supports vacuum applications when the glass surface is free of impacts and deep scratches. The standard ground joint provides a precise, leak-tight connection to further ground-glass apparatus such as columns, thermometers and dropping funnels. Permanent white markings are fired onto the glass, and the flask accepts both glass and plastic stoppers. Applications cover distillation, extraction, connection to other glassware, heating in baths and mantles, evaporation, drying and stand mounting. This single-neck flask from manufacturer Duran/DWK Life Sciences is supplied in a pack of ten pieces and delivers uniform heating performance. Nominal volume is 0,25 l.

This article is part of Round-bottom flasks, in Beakers & flasks. See also Flat-bottom flasks.

Questions about DURAN® Round Bottom Flask, with standard ground joint

What is this article?

DURAN® Round Bottom Flask, with standard ground joint is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes DWK Life Sciences for laboratory use. It sits in Round-bottom flasks, inside Beakers & flasks, in Labware.

A round-bottom flask is the heating flask of a distillation or a reflux. The curved wall takes the heat, and the ground neck connects to a still head or a condenser. The joint size, not only the volume, has to match the rest of the set.

A beaker is an open working vessel: easy to pour, poor as a measure. An Erlenmeyer flask has a flat base and a conical wall so a liquid can be swirled without climbing out. A round-bottom flask is for heating under a condenser, because the heat meets a curved wall and the joint at the neck connects to the rest of the glassware. Borosilicate is the glass that survives the temperature change. These forms are listed under ISO laboratory glassware.
