Description
DURAN® Spherical Joint Socket, unground, S 35/20 is a polished borosilicate glass 3.3 component for grease-free flexible connections in laboratory glass apparatus. This unground spherical joint socket seals exclusively via an additional sealing ring; two ring versions are available, namely FEP-coated silicone rings and VITON sealing rings. The nominal size S 35/20 is derived from the nominal diameter of the spherical joint and, where applicable, the clear width of the tube diameter. Flexible connections can be realised in the 10–15° angular range depending on joint size, although tightness is reduced at angles of 5° or greater. Full 360° orientation of the connection is possible. Grease-free working is supported and a tight closure is obtained through the sealing ring. As a non-self-supporting glass article intended for further processing, it is designed for incorporation into glass apparatus and devices. This single-piece item from manufacturer Duran/DWK Life Sciences enables adaptable, fat-free joint assemblies in laboratory setups where conventional ground joints are less suitable.
This article is part of Ground-joint glassware (other), in Distillation & extraction glassware.

Questions about DURAN® Spherical Joint, cup polished
What is this article?
DURAN® Spherical Joint, cup polished is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes DWK Life Sciences for laboratory use. It sits in Ground-joint glassware (other), inside Distillation & extraction glassware, in Labware.
This is ground-joint glassware that is not a head, a condenser or a Soxhlet: receivers, blank joints, odd adapters. A ground joint is named by the wide end and the length, such as 29/32. Mismatched joints do not seal, even with grease.
Distillation separates liquids by boiling point. A condenser turns the vapour back into liquid: Liebig, coil and cold-finger shapes differ in how much cooling surface they offer. A still head and a column sit between the flask and the condenser. A Soxhlet extractor washes a solid again and again with the same solvent. Ground joints have a standard size, and the joint, not the flask, is what has to match. The pieces are indexed under ISO laboratory glassware.
