Description

DURAN® socket, DG ground, NS 14/23 is a conical ground-joint sleeve produced from borosilicate glass 3.3 for laboratory glass apparatus. The cone joint formed by socket and cone creates a rigid, self-supporting connection. DG grinding denotes a diamond-ground finish with coarser surface quality and greater roughness depth, offering a cost-effective alternative to finely ground DURAN® sockets and is not specified to DIN 12249. Ground joints should be used with joint grease or PTFE sleeves; KECK™ conical joint clamps provide secure retention of the assembly. The component is suitable for high-vacuum applications and for incorporation into glass apparatus and devices as a glass article for further processing. Available from manufacturer Duran/DWK Life Sciences, it delivers a tight seal via the standardised ground joint while retaining the chemical and thermal performance of borosilicate glass 3.3. Packed as one piece with a net weight of 0,025 kg, this socket supports economical construction of laboratory glass systems where DIN-conform fine grinding is not required.

This article is part of Distillation heads, adapters & columns, in Distillation & extraction glassware.

Questions about DURAN® Standard Socket diamond-ground

What is this article?

DURAN® Standard Socket diamond-ground is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes DWK Life Sciences for laboratory use. It sits in Distillation heads, adapters & columns, inside Distillation & extraction glassware, in Labware.

A still head, an adapter or a column is the glass between the boiling flask and the condenser. A Vigreux or packed column gives the vapour a surface so a closer-boiling mixture can separate. The joint sizes at both ends have to match the flask and the condenser.

Distillation separates liquids by boiling point. A condenser turns the vapour back into liquid: Liebig, coil and cold-finger shapes differ in how much cooling surface they offer. A still head and a column sit between the flask and the condenser. A Soxhlet extractor washes a solid again and again with the same solvent. Ground joints have a standard size, and the joint, not the flask, is what has to match. The pieces are indexed under ISO laboratory glassware.
