DURAN® ground socket NS 45/40 is a precision-ground female conical joint component intended for professional glass apparatus construction. Produced from borosilicate glass 3.3, the socket follows DIN 12249 Form E geometry and meets elevated requirements for surface roughness. Its finer grind quality reduces roughness depth, which decreases the quantity of joint grease needed and significantly lowers the risk of joints seizing or jamming during use. The conical ground joint remains the most widely employed connection method in laboratory glassware assembly, offering a very low leak rate and a dense, reliable seal when correctly prepared with grease or PTFE sleeves.
