Description

DURAN® baffled flask with GL 45 thread is a 500 ml culture vessel made of borosilicate glass 3.3 for microbial cultivation on orbital shakers. Four integrated bottom baffles interrupt laminar flow and create turbulence, enlarging the liquid surface and gas-exchange area so that oxygen transfer is substantially improved. Laboratory comparisons have shown that oxygen input is doubled versus a standard DURAN® Erlenmeyer flask. Fully automated manufacture yields geometrically reproducible flasks, while the increased wall thickness delivers excellent mechanical stability and long service life. A special two-stage process forms the complete GL 45 thread, enabling use of the proven membrane closures from manufacturer Duran/DWK Life Sciences for more reproducible gas exchange than cotton plugs. An easy-to-read graduated scale with permanent white print allows accurate volume measurement. Ideal for growth and cultivation of bacteria, yeasts and cell cultures, preparation of nutrient media, liquid cultures and shaker applications. Compatible with GL 45 membrane caps for autoclaving, 30 mm culture stoppers and screw caps for media storage. Supplied without membrane closure and pouring ring.

Questions about DURAN® Baffled Flask, with GL 45 thread

What is this article?

DURAN® Baffled Flask, with GL 45 thread is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes DWK Life Sciences for laboratory use. It sits in Flasks (other), inside Beakers & flasks, in Labware.

These are the flasks that are not a plain beaker, Erlenmeyer, round bottom or flat bottom: odd shapes, special necks, flasks defined by a use. The volume and the joint, if there is one, still have to match the setup.

A beaker is an open working vessel: easy to pour, poor as a measure. An Erlenmeyer flask has a flat base and a conical wall so a liquid can be swirled without climbing out. A round-bottom flask is for heating under a condenser, because the heat meets a curved wall and the joint at the neck connects to the rest of the glassware. Borosilicate is the glass that survives the temperature change. These forms are listed under ISO laboratory glassware.
