Description

Mortar with pestle, aluminium oxide, 125 mm is a laboratory grinding set produced from high-purity aluminium oxide containing 99,7 % Al2O3. This dense ceramic material provides high chemical corrosion resistance and a high degree of hardness, measured at 7 on the Mohs scale and 83 on the Rockwell scale (45N). Such mechanical strength supports reliable pulverisation of hard solids while limiting wear of the working surfaces during extended grinding sessions. The set is recommended for use with liquid nitrogen, enabling cryogenic sample preparation when heat-sensitive or tough specimens must be reduced to fine powders. Supply covers the complete set comprising both mortar and pestle. With a working diameter of 125 mm and a net weight of 1,240 kg, the unit offers practical capacity for bench-scale preparation in analytical chemistry, materials science and quality-control laboratories. The aluminium oxide construction remains inert toward many reagents and resists chemical attack that would degrade softer ceramics or glass. Available from manufacturer Labbox, this HDN CERAMICS mortar and pestle combination is intended for routine milling, homogenisation and fine grinding workflows where durability and chemical stability are essential.

Questions about High Alumina Mortar with Pestle, 125 mm

What is this article?

High Alumina Mortar with Pestle, 125 mm is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Labbox for laboratory use. It sits in Mortars & pestles, inside Dishes, crucibles & porcelain, in Labware.

A mortar and pestle grind a solid by hand. Porcelain is the ordinary laboratory set. Agate and glass are chosen when the sample must not pick up porcelain dust. The unglazed grinding surface, not the glossy outside, does the work.

A dish is an open vessel for drying, evaporating or holding a solid. Porcelain and glazed ceramic take a higher temperature than borosilicate glass, which is why a crucible, not a beaker, goes into a furnace. A watch glass covers, or holds a small amount for drying. A mortar is for grinding. The temperature and the chemical, not the shape alone, choose the material. Laboratory ware of this family is listed under ISO laboratory ware.
