Description

Nalgene™ 489 linear LDPE tubing is a translucent, semi-rigid hose made from linear low-density polyethylene for laboratory and industrial fluid transfer. The translucent wall makes liquid fill levels easy to read while remaining a cost-effective choice for routine process lines. Key dimensions are an inner diameter of 15,9 mm, an outer diameter of 19,1 mm and a wall thickness of 1,6 mm, providing a defined flow path with solid mechanical strength. Hardness is rated at durometer 50 D, and the recommended bend radius is eight times the outer diameter to limit kinking during installation. Maximum working pressure reaches 96 psig at 23 °C and 48 psig at 63 °C, with a maximum operating temperature of 79 °C. The tubing is not autoclavable and complies with FDA regulations for food-contact use. Each unit is supplied as a continuous 30,48 m (100 ft) roll from manufacturer Thermo Scientific, supporting cut-to-length use in industrial and laboratory environments where reliable polyethylene tubing is needed for general fluid handling.

This article is part of PVC, PTFE & other tubing, in Tubing, hoses & fittings.

Questions about Nalgene™ 489 Linear LDPE Tubing

What is this article?

Nalgene™ 489 Linear LDPE Tubing is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Thermo Scientific - Laboratory Plastics for laboratory use. It sits in PVC, PTFE & other tubing, inside Tubing, hoses & fittings, in Labware.

PVC is the flexible everyday tube for water and mild aqueous liquids. PTFE is the stiff, almost inert tube for solvents. Other polymers sit between them. The bore, the wall and the chemical resistance are the specification, and the tube is cut to length.

Tubing is how a liquid or a gas moves between two vessels without being poured. Silicone stays flexible and survives repeated autoclaving. PTFE resists almost every solvent and is stiff. PVC is the ordinary flexible line for water and for mild aqueous work. The fitting, not the tube, is what usually leaks: the barb, the thread and the stopcock have to match the tube bore. Glass and plastic apparatus around these lines is indexed under ISO laboratory ware.
