Owl™ vertical dual-gel electrophoresis system with caster is offered as a single unit for loading and running one or two gels in the same device. It accepts gels 16 cm wide and 14 to 16 cm long and holds a buffer volume of 550 ml. Proven acrylic fabrication yields a long-lasting chamber, while the central cooling core maintains even temperature across the gel surface for high-resolution separation and clear bands. Fluid circulation through the core—via an external circulating thermostat or cold tap water—supplies the required cooling. The straightforward clamping arrangement simplifies placement of glass cassettes and use of precast gels from most suppliers. Users follow six steps: attach glass cassettes, add agarose, fit the specially constructed spacer, pour polyacrylamide solution, load samples and run the gel. Typical applications include SDS electrophoresis, the second dimension of 2-D electrophoresis, agarose electrophoresis and native electrophoresis. This single-unit Owl™ configuration comes from manufacturer Thermo Scientific as one piece for vertical electrophoresis work.
