Description
Free and Total Chlorine Photometer HI97711C is a portable, battery-powered instrument for measuring free and total chlorine in water up to 5,00 mg/L (ppm as Cl2). The method is adapted from EPA 330.5 DPD; both parameters share a resolution of 0,01 mg/L and an accuracy of ±0,03 mg/L ±3 % of reading at 25 °C. Chlorine monitoring supports disinfection control in swimming pools and food processing, oxidation steps such as cyanide conversion in metal finishing, and bleaching applications in pulp and paper. An advanced optical system employing an LED and narrow-band interference filter at 525 nm (bandwidth 8 nm, wavelength accuracy ±1,0 nm) is sealed against dust, dirt and water, and the holder positions round 24,6 mm cuvettes (22 mm inner diameter) identically for every measurement; a silicon photocell serves as detector. This dedicated HI97xxx-series photometer from manufacturer Hanna Instruments features CAL CHECK™ with NIST-traceable standards for performance verification and recalibration, a built-in tutorial mode detailing reagents and volumes, German menu guidance, GLP calibration recall, automatic logging of the last 50 results, reaction timer, battery-level display and auto-off. Compatible with Hanna DPD reagents in liquid dropper or powder-packet form (ordered separately). The transport-case set includes two capped cuvettes, plastic inserts, CAL CHECK™ standards, scissors, cleaning cloth, three 1,5 V AA batteries, quality certificate and operating instructions.

Questions about Portable Photometer for Free and Total Chlorine with CAL Checks
What is this article?
Portable Photometer for Free and Total Chlorine with CAL Checks is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Hanna Instruments for laboratory use. It sits in Photometers & spectrophotometers, inside Spectroscopy & photometry, in Lab instruments.
A photometer reads absorbance at one or a few wavelengths. A spectrophotometer scans or selects many. Both send light through a cuvette or a well. The wavelength range, UV or visible, and the bandwidth decide what can be measured. A visible-only instrument cannot read a nucleic acid at 260 nm.
A photometer or spectrophotometer sends light through a sample and reads how much was absorbed. In the range where the Beer–Lambert relation holds, absorbance tracks concentration. A refractometer reads how a liquid bends light, which tracks dissolved solids. A polarimeter reads the rotation of polarised light, the classical measurement for sugars. The lamp, the wavelength and the cuvette path length are the three things that have to be right before the number means anything. The optical quantities trace to NIST and the BIPM.
