Les bandes du marqueur sont pré-colorées avec le colorant fluorescent SYBR® Green I, qui a été développé spécifiquement pour l'analyse de l'ADN. Le colorant se lie au sillon mineur de l'ADN et s'intercale également dans l'ADN. Il peut être excité par la lumière UV et bleue, ce qui le rend entièrement compatible avec les transilluminateurs UV standard ainsi qu'avec l'éclairage moderne à lumière bleue (voir également ROTIPHORESE®PROfessional runVIEW, Art. N° 4849.1). Lorsqu'il est excité, le colorant lié aux acides nucléiques émet une fluorescence verte vive qui peut être documentée par tous les filtres habituels à large bande pour bromure d'éthidium ou les filtres photo SYBR® Green.
