Inhibiteur Competitive de la liaison de l'ATP au domaine catalytique des tyrosines kinases. Exceptionnelles sont la tyrosine kinase du récepteur de l'insuline et les protéases spécifiques de sérine/thréonine, qui ne seront pas inhibées par la génistéine. Un effet supplémentaire de la génistéine, indépendant de la tyrosine kinase, est l'inhibition des topoisomérases I et II.
