La modification butyl à densité moyenne est basée sur un gel de silice NUCLEODUR® de haute pureté et est souvent utilisée pour la séparation de biomolécules. Les modifications Butyl (C4) ont une rétention plus faible pour les composés hydrophobes par rapport aux modifications C18 (octadécylsilane, ODS) ou C8 (octyle, MOS).
