A benchtop centrifuge sits on the bench and takes the ordinary tube rotors. A floor-standing model takes larger rotors and higher forces. Capacity, maximum force and which rotors are sold for it are the specification. Refrigeration is a separate choice, for samples that cannot warm.

The rotor spins the sample and the force is reported as a multiple of gravity, not as a raw speed, because the same revolutions per minute are a different force at a different radius.
