Beschrijving
Brilliance E. coli/coliform selective agar is a selective chromogenic culture medium for the detection and enumeration of Escherichia coli and other coliform organisms from food and water samples. The medium contains two chromogenic substrates: Rose-Gal for detection of β-galactosidase activity and X-Glu for detection of β-glucuronidase activity. Sodium lauryl sulfate is included as a selective agent that suppresses the growth of Gram-positive organisms. Most coliforms can utilise lactose and cleave the Rose-Gal chromogen, producing pink colonies. E. coli additionally expresses β-glucuronidase, which is highly specific for this organism and is therefore used to differentiate it from other coliforms; the enzyme target is the X-Glu chromogen, so E. coli can utilise both chromogenic substrates. Brilliance™ E. coli/Coliform Selective Agar is thus suited to parallel detection and colony-count work on food and water matrices in the microbiology laboratory. Supplied as a 500 g pack from manufacturer Altmann Analytik, the medium supports routine chromogenic screening workflows where clear visual distinction between E. coli and other coliforms is required.
This article is part of Dehydrated culture media (agar & broth bases), in Culture media & microbiology. See also Petri dishes.

Questions about Brilliance E Coli/Coliform Sel Med, 500g
What is this article?
Brilliance E Coli/Coliform Sel Med, 500g is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Altmann Analytik for laboratory use. It sits in Dehydrated culture media (agar & broth bases), inside Culture media & microbiology, in Microbiologische media.
A dehydrated medium is a powder the laboratory dissolves, sterilises and pours. The formulation name, the supplements it still needs, and the grams per litre are the specification. Two powders with similar names, one selective and one not, grow different organisms.
A culture medium is the food and the solid or liquid home of a microorganism. Dehydrated media are powders the laboratory dissolves and sterilises. Ready-to-use plates and tubes are already that. A Petri dish is the plate. Selective media let one kind of organism grow and hold another back. The formulation and the supplements, not the colour of the agar, are the specification. Reference strains are at ATCC. Methods are on PubMed. Biosafety practice is the WHO laboratory biosafety topic.
