The body is covered with a specially formulated transparent coating that acts like a protective glove: in the event of breakage it holds the glass fragments together, reduces impact effects and minimises leakage so that the contents often remain contained inside the flask. The coating withstands temperatures up to 135 °C for a maximum of 30 minutes, permits cleaning at up to 95 °C and autoclaving at 121 °C; direct contact with an open flame must be avoided.
