A specially formulated transparent coating envelops the flask body like a protective glove; should breakage occur it retains the glass fragments, dampens impact and greatly reduces the risk of spillage, often keeping the liquid contained within the vessel. The coating remains stable up to 135 °C for a maximum of 30 minutes, allows cleaning at temperatures up to 95 °C and autoclaving at 121 °C; contact with an open flame must be avoided.
