De perforator is een extractieapparaat voor het uitvoeren van een intensieve vloeistof-vloeistofextractie. Het oplosmiddel wordt continu verdampt, gecondenseerd in een refluxcondensor en druppelt continu op het extractiemateriaal, dat is opgelost in een vloeistof die niet mengbaar is met het oplosmiddel.
De perforatormethode is een extractiemethode die wordt gebruikt om het formaldehydegehalte van onbehandeld en ongelakt hout te bepalen. Het formaldehyde wordt uit het testmateriaal geëxtraheerd met kokende tolueen en opgelost in gedestilleerd en gedemineraliseerd water. Het formaldehydegehalte van de waterige oplossing kan fotometrisch worden bepaald met behulp van de acetylacetonmethode.
