ROTI®nanoMETIC Quantum dots (QD) zijn fluorescerende nanodeeltjes van bepaalde halfgeleidende materialen, waarvan de elektronische eigenschappen nauw samenhangen met de grootte van de deeltjes. De fluorescentiegolflengte verschuift naar rood bij grotere deeltjes en naar blauw bij kleinere. Hierdoor kan het volledige zichtbare kleurenspectrum worden afgedekt met quantum dots van verschillende afmetingen van hetzelfde materiaal. De mogelijkheid om de grootte van de deeltjes tijdens de productie te controleren, maakt een nauwkeurige afstelling van hun elektronische en fluorescerende eigenschappen mogelijk. Door hun anorganische aard zijn quantum dots veel stabieler dan organische fluorescentiekleurstoffen.
Zn-Cu-In-S/ZnS, hydrofoob, Cd-vrij De niet-giftige Zn-Cu-In-S/ZnS (kern/schil) quantum dots zijn cadmiumvrij en zijn gecoat met hydrofobe organische liganden (dodecaanthiol (DDT)). Deze modificatie zorgt voor een goede dispergeerbaarheid in hexaan, cyclohexaan, tolueen, chloroform, THF, pyridine en soortgelijke oplosmiddelen, maar niet in water, alcoholen en ethers. De producten worden geleverd als poeder in 2 ml vials met septum. Hierdoor kunnen de quantum dots direct in de vial worden gedispergeerd met het gewenste oplosmiddel.
