Filter tips

A filter tip has a porous barrier that stops aerosol from the sample reaching the pipette piston. It is the tip for PCR, for radioactive liquids and for anything that must not cross-contaminate the next sample. The filter is not a syringe filter and it does not sterilise the liquid going out.

A pipette moves a measured volume. A volumetric pipette delivers one line. A graduated pipette delivers along a scale. A Pasteur pipette is an uncalibrated transfer. A piston pipette uses a tip, and the tip has to seal on that pipette. A filter tip adds a barrier so aerosol from the sample does not reach the piston. Serological pipettes are the long graduated tubes used with a controller. The volume and the fit are the specification. Piston pipettes are treated under ISO laboratory apparatus. In-vitro work also meets ISO in vitro diagnostic systems.
