Recombinant human insulin is commonly used as a chemical supplement for the cultivation of a variety of mammalian cell lines, particularly CHO cells. It regulates the cellular uptake, utilization, and storage of glucose, amino acids, and fatty acids, and also inhibits the breakdown of glycogen, proteins, and fats.
Expressed in yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae).
