Description

DURAN® filter disc with unfused and centred rim and unfinished surfaces is a porous sintered glass plate for laboratory filtration. Measuring 30 mm in diameter and supplied in porosity class 3, it is made from DURAN® borosilicate glass 3.3. Sintering glass powder of controlled grain-size distribution produces a solid porous body used as filter material in disc form. These plates are ideal for separations with strong acids or alkalis and offer advantages over plastic or paper alternatives. Available in six porosity classes conforming to ISO 4796 and ASTM E128-99, they suit vacuum filtration at a maximum pressure difference of 1 bar. The unfused centred rim and unfinished surfaces identify the item as a glass article for further processing. Correct porosity choice—largest pore width slightly below the grain size of the smallest particles to be retained—ensures effective separation. This single-piece filter disc from manufacturer Duran/DWK Life Sciences provides chemical resistance for demanding laboratory applications.

This article is part of Sintered glass filter plates & discs, in Filtration.

Questions about DURAN® Filter Disc, sintered glass, edge not fused, centred, surfaces untreated

What is this article?

DURAN® Filter Disc, sintered glass, edge not fused, centred, surfaces untreated is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes DWK Life Sciences for laboratory use. It sits in Sintered glass filter plates & discs, inside Filtration, in Lab consumables.

A sintered glass filter is a disc of fused glass particles with a porosity grade, often 0 to 5, from coarse to fine. It is cleaned and reused. The porosity number, not a micrometre guess, is the specification. Hydrofluoric acid and strong alkali attack the glass.

Filtration holds back what is larger than the pores and lets the rest through. Paper is the ordinary laboratory filter. A membrane has a stated pore size and a polymer that must survive the solvent. A syringe filter is that membrane in a housing on a syringe. Glass fibre takes a higher dirt load. Ultrafiltration holds back macromolecules and passes salts. The pore size, the chemical compatibility and the volume are the three choices. Laboratory apparatus around filtration is indexed under ISO laboratory apparatus.
