Description
DURAN® glass stopper, clear, with standard ground joint NS 85/55 and octagonal head is a semi-hollow laboratory stopper for closing glassware such as flasks, separatory funnels or reagent bottles fitted with ground joint necks. The Standard Taper ground glass joint forms a tight, leak-proof seal; grease is recommended for heating or vacuum applications. Manufactured entirely from borosilicate glass 3.3, it consists only of glass components and is therefore suitable for storing aggressive materials. This stopper from manufacturer Duran/DWK Life Sciences features an octagonal head for secure handling. Typical uses include storage of air-sensitive reagents and chemicals as well as hygroscopic solids, granules and powders. When used with soda-lime glass bottles, keep any temperature difference between bottle and stopper below 30 °C to avoid sticking. Supplied as 1 piece with a net weight of 0,515 kg and gross weight of 0,554 kg, it provides a reliable all-glass closure for demanding laboratory storage.
This article is part of Ground-joint glass stoppers, in Stoppers, caps & closures.

Questions about DURAN® Glass Stopper, clear, with standard ground joint, octagonal
What is this article?
DURAN® Glass Stopper, clear, with standard ground joint, octagonal is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes DWK Life Sciences for laboratory use. It sits in Ground-joint glass stoppers, inside Stoppers, caps & closures, in Labware.
A ground-glass stopper matches a ground neck of a stated joint size. A 14/23 stopper does not seal a 29/32 neck. The stopper is part of the flask's seal, and a chip on the grind is a leak.
A closure is the part that decides whether a bottle stays shut and whether the contents attack the seal. A ground-glass stopper matches a ground neck. A screw cap needs the right thread and a liner that survives the liquid. Rubber and silicone stoppers push into a mouth. The liner, not the colour of the cap, is the chemical choice. The vessels they close are indexed under ISO laboratory glassware.
