Description

Hydrometer 1,100 - 1,200 without thermometer is a density measuring instrument for determining the relative density of liquids within the range 1,100 to 1,200 g/ml. Its scale is graduated in steps of 0,001 g/ml, enabling precise reading of density values for laboratory and process samples. Approximately 300 mm long, the hydrometer is calibrated at a reference temperature of 20 °C. It is delivered without an integrated thermometer, allowing temperature control or correction to be handled externally according to the analytical procedure in use. This Geco-Gering instrument addresses denser liquids above 1,100 g/ml and is therefore suitable for solutions and formulations that fall in that higher density band. In practice the hydrometer is placed in the sample liquid until it reaches equilibrium flotation; the density is then taken from the stem scale at the meniscus. Clear range limits, fine scale division and a defined 20 °C reference temperature support consistent density determination in quality-control, production-support and teaching laboratories. Supplied as a single piece, it provides a dedicated measuring tool for the 1,100–1,200 g/ml interval without built-in temperature measurement.

This article is part of Hydrometers, in Density & viscosity measurement.

Questions about Hydrometer 1,100 - 1,200 without thermometer

What is this article?

Hydrometer 1,100 - 1,200 without thermometer is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Geco-Gering for laboratory use. It sits in Hydrometers, inside Density & viscosity measurement, in Lab instruments.

A hydrometer floats in a liquid and the stem reading is the density or a related scale such as Brix. The liquid has to be at the temperature printed on the stem, or a correction is required. A chip on the stem changes the reading. One hydrometer does not cover every density.

Density is mass divided by volume. A hydrometer floats at a depth that depends on the density of the liquid. A pycnometer is a vessel of known volume that is weighed full. Viscosity is the resistance to flow. A capillary viscometer times how long a volume takes to fall through a tube. Both measurements need a stated temperature, because liquids change density and viscosity as they warm. The units trace to the BIPM and to NIST.
