Description

VitraPOR® micro filter candle is a cylindrical sintered-glass filter element made from borosilicate glass 3.3. It features an outer diameter of 13 mm, porosity grade 5, a height of 25 mm and a central bore of 6,0 mm. This compact micro filter candle is intended for laboratory filtration duties that require defined porosity, chemical resistance and thermal stability. The borosilicate 3.3 construction withstands a wide range of aqueous and organic media while offering good resistance to thermal shock. Porosity 5 provides the fine particle-retention characteristics typical of this frit grade, supporting solid–liquid separation, sample clarification and related preparative steps. The 6,0 mm bore simplifies mounting in holders or custom apparatus. Supplied in packs of 5 pieces from manufacturer ROBU - Stereon, the candles deliver consistent dimensions and reliable VitraPOR® glass-filter performance for analytical and research workflows that need small cylindrical frits of controlled porosity.

This article is part of Sintered glass filter plates & discs, in Filtration.

What is this article?

Micro-Filter Candle-blanks, Ø 13 mm, Por. 5, H 25 mm is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes ROBU - Stereon for laboratory use. It sits in Sintered glass filter plates & discs, inside Filtration, in Lab consumables.

A sintered glass filter is a disc of fused glass particles with a porosity grade, often 0 to 5, from coarse to fine. It is cleaned and reused. The porosity number, not a micrometre guess, is the specification. Hydrofluoric acid and strong alkali attack the glass.

Filtration holds back what is larger than the pores and lets the rest through. Paper is the ordinary laboratory filter. A membrane has a stated pore size and a polymer that must survive the solvent. A syringe filter is that membrane in a housing on a syringe. Glass fibre takes a higher dirt load. Ultrafiltration holds back macromolecules and passes salts. The pore size, the chemical compatibility and the volume are the three choices. Laboratory apparatus around filtration is indexed under ISO laboratory apparatus.
