Description

Nalgene™ 50 platinum-cured silicone tubing is flexible, translucent laboratory tubing engineered to minimise absorption of proteins and foodstuffs. Its low-binding surface makes the hose ideal for diverse pump and transfer duties in laboratory and hygienic process work. Platinum-cured silicone provides a resilient, flexible wall with a recommended bend radius of four times the outer diameter. This variant has an inner diameter of 9,5 mm, an outer diameter of 14,3 mm and a wall thickness of 2,4 mm, delivered as a 15,24 m roll. Shore hardness is Durometer 50 (A). The tubing is autoclavable, tolerates a maximum operating temperature of 232 °C and a maximum pressure of 7 psig at 160 °C. Compliance covers plastics requirements of FDA, USDA, U.S. Pharmacopeia Class VI (24th edition) and 3A sanitary standards. Offered by Thermo Scientific under the Nalgene™ line, it supports consistent fluid transfer where low extractables and cleanability matter.

This article is part of Silicone tubing, in Tubing, hoses & fittings.

Questions about Nalgene™ 50 Platinum-Cured Silicone Tubing

What is this article?

Nalgene™ 50 Platinum-Cured Silicone Tubing is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Thermo Scientific - Laboratory Plastics for laboratory use. It sits in Silicone tubing, inside Tubing, hoses & fittings, in Labware.

Silicone tubing stays flexible across a wide temperature range and survives repeated autoclaving, which is why peristaltic pumps and media lines use it. It is not the choice for strong solvents, which migrate into the wall.

Tubing is how a liquid or a gas moves between two vessels without being poured. Silicone stays flexible and survives repeated autoclaving. PTFE resists almost every solvent and is stiff. PVC is the ordinary flexible line for water and for mild aqueous work. The fitting, not the tube, is what usually leaks: the barb, the thread and the stopcock have to match the tube bore. Glass and plastic apparatus around these lines is indexed under ISO laboratory ware.
