Description

Phase contrast microscope KERN OBN 158 unites professionalism and versatility with Köhler illumination for demanding contrast applications. The OBN series is known for consistently high build quality and ergonomic design, while modular components allow strong individual configuration for laboratory users. This preconfigured phase-contrast model combines a professional 5-position condenser wheel, phase-contrast condenser and Infinity Plan phase-contrast objectives into a fully equipped instrument for the full range of phase-contrast techniques. Transmitted illumination is provided by a 20 W halogen lamp (Philips). Professional Köhler illumination with adjustable field diaphragm and a centring, height-adjustable 1,25 Abbe condenser with variable aperture diaphragm ensure controlled lighting. The large mechanical stage with ergonomic coaxial coarse and fine drives on both sides permits fast, precise focusing and specimen positioning. Modular options such as swing-out condenser, eyepieces, objectives, colour filters, additional phase units, darkfield condenser, simple polarisation, butterfly tube and complete fluorescence units are available as accessories (Kern). A centring eyepiece for phase-contrast alignment, dust cover, eyecups and multilingual operating instructions are included; a C-mount adapter is needed for camera connection. Suited to translucent, thin, low-contrast specimens such as living mammalian cells, bacteria and tissue in haematology, microbiology, pathology, water analysis and related fields.

Questions about Phase Contrast Microscope KERN OBN 158

What is this article?

Phase Contrast Microscope KERN OBN 158 is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Kern for laboratory use. It sits in Microscope objectives, eyepieces & optics, inside Microscopy & histology, in Lab instruments.

An objective makes the resolution. Magnification and numerical aperture are the two numbers, and the tube length or the infinity correction has to match the microscope. An eyepiece mostly enlarges the image the objective already resolved. A mismatched objective does not become sharper by zooming.

A light microscope forms an image with glass lenses and transmitted or reflected light. A stereo microscope is the lower-magnification instrument for dissecting and for looking at a surface. Fluorescence needs a light source and filters matched to the dye. Histology is the preparation that makes a tissue readable: fixation, a cassette, a section, a stain. The objective's magnification and numerical aperture decide the resolution. The slide and the cover glass decide whether the section sits in the focal plane. Stains and dyes as substances are identified on PubChem. Papers on the methods are on PubMed.
