Description

BactoSonic BS 14.2 is a specialised ultrasonic bath for the gentle detachment of biofilms from infected implant surfaces. Therapy success in implant-related infections depends on precise microbiological diagnosis; microorganisms that form biofilms on foreign-body materials are often difficult to detect in surrounding tissue, which limits treatment options. This unit from manufacturer Bandelin works with low-frequency ultrasound at low intensity compared with conventional ultrasonic baths, so detached microorganisms are not destroyed and remain available for subsequent microbiological analysis.

This article is part of Ultrasonic baths & cleaners, in Ultrasonic baths & lab washers.

Following the established scientific procedure, the implant is placed in the supplied box, covered with liquid and sonicated in the BactoSonic bath. The recovered fluid is processed microbiologically and bacterial quantity is reported. Up to 10 000 times more bacteria can be detected than with usual methods such as biopsies of periprosthetic tissue. Mixed infections and different bacterial morphotypes are more readily demonstrated, and sensitivity is improved especially after prior antibiotic therapy. The sonication tank holds 13,5 l, with internal dimensions 325 × 300 × 150 mm, ultrasonic peak power 800 W and rated power 200 W. A ball-valve drain G ½ is fitted on the left side.

Questions about SONOREX PR 140 DH Set Ultrasonic bath with heating

What is this article?

SONOREX PR 140 DH Set Ultrasonic bath with heating is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Bandelin for laboratory use. It sits in Ultrasonic baths & cleaners, inside Ultrasonic baths & lab washers, in Lab instruments.

An ultrasonic cleaner drops parts into a bath where collapsing bubbles scrub joints and bores. Tank volume and ultrasonic power are the ratings. A basket keeps items off the tank floor, where the transducers are. The liquid is usually water plus a cleaning concentrate, not a strong solvent, unless the tank is rated for it.

An ultrasonic bath cleans by cavitation: the sound collapses tiny bubbles against the surface and lifts soil out of joints a brush cannot reach. The chemistry of the bath liquid still matters. A laboratory glassware washer is the machine that replaces hand washing when the load is large or the result has to be repeatable. Rinse water quality decides whether the glass comes out spotted. The ware being washed is listed under ISO laboratory glassware.
