Description

Thermometer similar to BS 593, type A130C/100, is a solid-stem laboratory thermometer designed for accurate readings from 100 °C to +130 °C with a scale division of 0,1 °C. It has a white-backed stem for high contrast against the scale and uses a non-wetting blue special filling together with a special capillary inner coating. The body measures about 400 × 5,5–7 mm, with a diameter of 7 mm, length of 400 mm and immersion depth of 100 mm. The upper end is rounded and closed, and the scale is applied with resistant colouring. An auxiliary scale at 0 °C is provided for reference. This Amarell instrument is delivered with a works test certificate including one test point and is appropriate for general laboratory use, solid-stem applications and routine temperature control where a blue-filled, white-backed thermometer in the 100–130 °C range is required. Packaged as one piece for convenient laboratory stocking.

A liquid-in-glass thermometer is a calibrated column, often with a stated immersion depth, total or partial. The range and the division decide the reading. A partial-immersion thermometer read at the wrong depth is wrong by design.

A thermometer reports a temperature. A liquid-in-glass thermometer is a calibrated column. A digital thermometer is a sensor and a display, and the sensor, not the display, is what is calibrated. An infrared thermometer reads a surface and depends on emissivity. A data logger stores the reading over time. Without a stated uncertainty and a calibration point, the number is only an indication. The scale is maintained by the BIPM and compared by EURAMET. Accreditation is BELAC.
