Description
Hazard symbol Carcinogenic, mutagenic GHS 08 is a self-adhesive GHS pictogram label for clear identification of substances classified as carcinogenic or mutagenic. Each sticker measures 18×26 mm and is supplied on a foil sheet of 30 labels bearing the signal word “Danger”. These WINLAB® symbols support uniform warning and labelling in laboratories, production areas and storage facilities. Since 1 December 2010, substances must be classified and labelled according to the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) of the United Nations, which provides the basis for worldwide harmonisation and removes earlier differences between rules for the transport of dangerous goods and those for the handling of hazardous substances. The foil stickers from manufacturer Windaus are self-adhesive and intended for indoor and outdoor use on smooth surfaces. They are water-, oil- and alkali-resistant, giving durable performance where reliable GHS 08 health-hazard marking is required for chemical handling, storage and workplace safety communication.

A GHS label carries the pictograms, the signal word and the hazard and precautionary statements of a classification. The label stock has to survive the container. Printing a pictogram that the classification does not require is its own error. The legal text is the CLP Regulation.
A label is how the next person knows what is in the bottle. A GHS label carries the pictogram, the signal word and the hazard statements the classification requires. A tape or a marker is only as useful as its survival in the freezer, the autoclave or the solvent it will meet. A safety sign is the instruction that stays on the door. The pictograms come from the CLP Regulation and are explained by ECHA CLP. Workplace signs sit with EU-OSHA.
