Description

MF 10.1 cutting grinding head is a laboratory milling accessory for the comminution of fibrous materials such as paper and plant matter, as well as plastics and other materials of low specific weight. Before discharge, the ground material passes through a sieve; the sieve is interchangeable and available in various hole sizes, though sieves are not included in the scope of delivery and are chosen according to the required particle size. Collected product can be received, for example, in an NS 29 standard ground-joint vessel for straightforward transfer into downstream steps. Supplied as one piece with a net weight of 2,633 kg, this cutting head from manufacturer IKA is intended for use with compatible MF 10 series mill drives. It suits sample-preparation workflows that need controlled size reduction of light or fibrous feedstocks while keeping the grinding path defined by the selected sieve. Laboratories select it when a dedicated cutting geometry is preferred over impact or other head types for the same drive platform.

This article is part of Mills, grinders & homogenisers, in Test sieves & mills.

Questions about MF 10.1, Cutting-grinding head

What is this article?

MF 10.1, Cutting-grinding head is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes IKA for laboratory use. It sits in Mills, grinders & homogenisers, inside Test sieves & mills, in Instruments de précision.

A mill, grinder or homogeniser reduces particle size or breaks a tissue before an extraction. The rotor and the sieve insert decide the result. A knife mill and a bead mill are different machines. The sample has to tolerate the heat the motor puts into it.

A test sieve sorts particles by whether they pass an opening. Wire mesh and perforated plate are two ways of making that opening, and the nominal size is not a suggestion. A sieve shaker repeats the motion so the result does not depend on how hard someone shook by hand. A mill or grinder makes the particles smaller before they are sieved. The certificate of the sieve, and the opening size, are what an audit asks for. Measurement practice around mass and dimension sits with the BIPM, EURAMET and BELAC.
