Description

MEM-Alpha with low glucose is a Minimum Essential Medium-α widely used for mammalian cell culture and for selection of transfected DHFR-negative cells. This liquid formulation is modified with low glucose, L-glutamine, sodium bicarbonate and phenol red, and is supplied without nucleosides (ribonucleosides and deoxyribonucleosides). Offered in a practical 500 ml pack with a net weight of 0,500 kg, it provides a convenient volume for everyday laboratory workflows. The balanced basal medium from manufacturer Sartorius supports cultivation of a broad range of mammalian cells under standard culture conditions. Its nucleoside-free composition is especially suited to DHFR-based selection systems and other applications that require a defined medium free of ribonucleosides and deoxyribonucleosides. Phenol red enables visual pH monitoring during culture, while sodium bicarbonate contributes to the buffering system. Cell-biology and biotechnology laboratories use this MEM-α variant for consistent performance in both routine growth and specialised selection protocols where a low-glucose, nucleoside-free basal medium is required.

Questions about Minimum Essential Medium-Alpha 500ML

What is this article?

Minimum Essential Medium-Alpha 500ML is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Sartorius for laboratory use. It sits in Carbohydrates & sugars, inside Biochemicals & reagents, in Microbiologie.

A carbohydrate reagent is a sugar or a derivative, specified by identity, anomer where it matters, and purity. Hydrate and anhydrous forms change the mass. A culture-grade sugar and an analytical standard of the same name are different bottles.

A biochemical is a molecule of life, sold as a reagent: an amino acid, a sugar, a nucleotide, a lipid, an enzyme, an antibiotic. The difference from a bulk chemical is that the use is a biological one, and the impurities that matter are the ones that change that use. An enzyme is specified by activity, not only by mass. An antibiotic is specified by potency. Papers are on PubMed. Structures are on PubChem. Strains and lines that consume these reagents are at ATCC.
