Description

The Owl™ VEP-3 Large Tank Electroblotting System is a large-tank unit for rapid transfer of high molecular weight proteins. It supports gels of 20 × 18,5 cm, giving a transfer area of 20 × 18,5 cm, and runs with a buffer volume of 4,0 L (1,05 gal). A removable cooling block promotes efficient heat transfer during electroblotting. Coded blotting cassettes maintain correct anode/cathode orientation, load easily into the buffer chamber, and lock securely once the gel sandwich is in place. Optional stir bars can be placed at the bottom of the chamber to circulate buffer. The system from manufacturer Thermo Scientific includes a buffer chamber with stainless-steel cathode plate and titanium anode plate, a safety interlocking lid with attached power supply leads and cooling module, two blotting cassettes with foam pads, and 25 sheets of 20 × 18,5 cm blotting filter paper. External dimensions are 9 × 30 × 30 cm (3,5 × 11,8 × 30 in.). Supplied as 1 pc, it suits demanding protein-transfer workflows in research laboratories.

This article is part of Blotting membranes & papers, in Protein biology & Western blot.

Questions about Owl™ VEP-3 Large Tank Electroblotting System Large Tank

What is this article?

Owl™ VEP-3 Large Tank Electroblotting System Large Tank is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Thermo Scientific - Equipment LED for laboratory use. It sits in Blotting membranes & papers, inside Protein biology & Western blot, in Milieux microbiologiques.

A blotting membrane, nitrocellulose or PVDF, binds proteins transferred out of a gel. Pore size, 0.2 µm or 0.45 µm, and the format, roll or pre-cut, are the choices. PVDF is activated in methanol. The papers and the sponges around it in the cassette are part of the same stack.

Protein work separates a mixture, then asks which protein is which. Extraction and purification take the protein out of the cell. A marker shows the masses. A Western blot moves the separated proteins onto a membrane and probes them with an antibody. The membrane, nitrocellulose or PVDF, has to bind the protein and survive the washes. Antibodies and methods are in PubMed. Reference material is at ATCC.
