Zout- en albuminevrij gelyofiliseerd poeder. Kwaliteitsproduct voor moleculaire biologie. Ideaal voor de lyse van bacteriën voor de bereiding van DNA. Lysozym hydrolyseert bij voorkeur de β-1,4-glycosidische binding tussen N-acetylmuraminezuur en N-acetylglucosamine. Muraminezuur en acetylglucosamine zijn bestanddelen van de proteoglycaan-celwand van vele micro-organismen. Het enzym is grotendeels afkomstig van kippeneiwit en kan efficiënt worden gebruikt voor de lyse van Gram+ bacteriën. In de gentechnologie wordt het zeer vaak gebruikt bij de isolatie van plasmide-DNA of cellulair RNA voor de lyse van E. coli of eukaryote cellen.
