The body is covered with a specially formulated transparent coating that acts like a protective glove: if the glass breaks, fragments are held together and leakage is greatly reduced, often retaining the contents inside the flask. The coating withstands temperatures up to 135 °C for a maximum of 30 minutes, may be cleaned at up to 95 °C and can be autoclaved at 121 °C; direct contact with an open flame must be avoided.
