Description
Nalgene™ 489 linear LDPE tubing is a translucent, semi-rigid low-density polyethylene hose designed for clear liquid-level reading in laboratory and industrial fluid handling. With an inner diameter of 6,4 mm, an outer diameter of 9,5 mm and a wall thickness of 1,6 mm, this linear LDPE tubing balances flexibility and dimensional stability for everyday transfer lines. The material hardness is Durometer 50 (D), and the recommended bend radius is eight times the outer diameter, supporting neat routing without excessive kinking. Supplied as a continuous roll about 33 m in length from manufacturer Thermo Scientific, the tubing is cost-effective for process and utility applications. It complies with FDA regulations for food use, is not autoclavable, and tolerates a maximum operating temperature of 79 °C. Rated working pressures reach 214 psig at 23 °C and 107 psig at 63 °C, making the translucent hose suitable for moderate-pressure aqueous and compatible fluid systems where visual fill monitoring and economical PE performance are required.
This article is part of PVC, PTFE & other tubing, in Tubing, hoses & fittings.

Questions about Nalgene™ 489 Linear LDPE Tubing
What is this article?
Nalgene™ 489 Linear LDPE Tubing is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Thermo Scientific - Laboratory Plastics for laboratory use. It sits in PVC, PTFE & other tubing, inside Tubing, hoses & fittings, in Labware.
PVC is the flexible everyday tube for water and mild aqueous liquids. PTFE is the stiff, almost inert tube for solvents. Other polymers sit between them. The bore, the wall and the chemical resistance are the specification, and the tube is cut to length.
Tubing is how a liquid or a gas moves between two vessels without being poured. Silicone stays flexible and survives repeated autoclaving. PTFE resists almost every solvent and is stiff. PVC is the ordinary flexible line for water and for mild aqueous work. The fitting, not the tube, is what usually leaks: the barb, the thread and the stopcock have to match the tube bore. Glass and plastic apparatus around these lines is indexed under ISO laboratory ware.
