Description

Nalgene™ 489 linear LDPE tubing is a translucent, semi-rigid low-density polyethylene tube that simplifies reading of liquid fill levels in industrial and laboratory fluid systems. This larger format provides a 12,7 mm inner diameter, 15,9 mm outer diameter and 1,6 mm wall thickness for higher volumetric throughput while retaining the handling character of linear LDPE. Durometer hardness is 50 (D), and flexibility is rated at a bend radius of eight times the outer diameter for controlled routing. Offered as a single roll from manufacturer Thermo Scientific, the hose is a cost-conscious option for process and utility lines. It complies with FDA regulations for food use, is not autoclavable, and withstands a maximum operating temperature of 79 °C. Working pressure is specified up to 118 psig at 23 °C and 59 psig at 63 °C. Translucent construction aids visual inspection of contents, supporting reliable everyday transfer of compatible fluids where semi-rigid polyethylene tubing and clear level indication are required.

This article is part of PVC, PTFE & other tubing, in Tubing, hoses & fittings.

Questions about Nalgene™ 489 Linear LDPE Tubing

What is this article?

Nalgene™ 489 Linear LDPE Tubing is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Thermo Scientific - Laboratory Plastics for laboratory use. It sits in PVC, PTFE & other tubing, inside Tubing, hoses & fittings, in Labware.

PVC is the flexible everyday tube for water and mild aqueous liquids. PTFE is the stiff, almost inert tube for solvents. Other polymers sit between them. The bore, the wall and the chemical resistance are the specification, and the tube is cut to length.

Tubing is how a liquid or a gas moves between two vessels without being poured. Silicone stays flexible and survives repeated autoclaving. PTFE resists almost every solvent and is stiff. PVC is the ordinary flexible line for water and for mild aqueous work. The fitting, not the tube, is what usually leaks: the barb, the thread and the stopcock have to match the tube bore. Glass and plastic apparatus around these lines is indexed under ISO laboratory ware.
