Description

Nalgene™ 870 tubing with 1/4 in. inner diameter and 3/8 in. outer diameter is a translucent, semi-rigid laboratory hose intended for the transfer of aggressive and corrosive chemical liquids. Food-grade materials complying with 21 CFR 177.1520 for food packaging support both chemical handling and food-contact use. Each roll supplies a continuous length of 7,62 m (25 ft) with a wall thickness of 1/16 in. (0,16 cm). Hardness is rated Durometer 60(D), and the recommended bend radius is ten times the outer diameter, giving a balance of stiffness and controlled flexibility for routing in lab and process setups. Maximum working pressure is 248 psig at 23 °C and 124 psig at 85 °C; the maximum operating temperature reaches 260 °C. The tubing is autoclavable for repeated sterilisation cycles. This Nalgene™ 870 format from manufacturer Thermo Scientific is offered as one roll for demanding fluid-transfer applications where chemical resistance, dimensional stability and elevated-temperature performance are required.

This article is part of PVC, PTFE & other tubing, in Tubing, hoses & fittings.

Questions about Nalgene™ 870 Tubing

What is this article?

Nalgene™ 870 Tubing is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes Thermo Scientific - Laboratory Plastics for laboratory use. It sits in PVC, PTFE & other tubing, inside Tubing, hoses & fittings, in Labware.

PVC is the flexible everyday tube for water and mild aqueous liquids. PTFE is the stiff, almost inert tube for solvents. Other polymers sit between them. The bore, the wall and the chemical resistance are the specification, and the tube is cut to length.

Tubing is how a liquid or a gas moves between two vessels without being poured. Silicone stays flexible and survives repeated autoclaving. PTFE resists almost every solvent and is stiff. PVC is the ordinary flexible line for water and for mild aqueous work. The fitting, not the tube, is what usually leaks: the barb, the thread and the stopcock have to match the tube bore. Glass and plastic apparatus around these lines is indexed under ISO laboratory ware.
