Tubes are manufactured without mould-release agents, plasticisers and biocides that can leach from consumables and affect bioassay results. Polypropylene provides strong chemical, mechanical and temperature resistance, and the precise lid seal supports low evaporation during long-term storage. A large frosted lid and exterior simplify labelling. Reliable function is specified between −86 °C and 100 °C; tubes are autoclavable when open at 121 °C for 20 min.
