Description

DURAN® filter disc with unfused and centred rim and unfinished surfaces is a porous sintered glass plate made from DURAN® borosilicate glass 3.3. Measuring 10 mm in diameter and supplied in porosity class 4, it is produced by sintering glass powder of defined particle-size distribution to form a solid yet permeable body suitable for filtration. These discs serve as filter material in plate form and are particularly well suited to separations involving strong acids or alkalis, providing clear advantages over plastic or paper media. Six porosity classes are available in accordance with ISO 4796 and ASTM E128-99; selecting the correct class ensures that the largest pore width lies slightly below the grain size of the smallest particles to be retained. The article is intended for further processing and supports vacuum filtration at a maximum resulting pressure difference of 1 bar. Special features include the unfused, centred rim and unfinished surfaces that facilitate integration into custom glass apparatus. Packaged as 10 pieces, this filter disc from manufacturer Duran/DWK Life Sciences enables reliable laboratory separations and analytical work where chemical resistance and precise porosity control are essential.

This article is part of Sintered glass filter plates & discs, in Filtration.

Questions about DURAN® Filter Disc, sintered glass, edge not fused, centred, surfaces untreated

What is this article?

DURAN® Filter Disc, sintered glass, edge not fused, centred, surfaces untreated is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes DWK Life Sciences for laboratory use. It sits in Sintered glass filter plates & discs, inside Filtration, in Lab consumables.

A sintered glass filter is a disc of fused glass particles with a porosity grade, often 0 to 5, from coarse to fine. It is cleaned and reused. The porosity number, not a micrometre guess, is the specification. Hydrofluoric acid and strong alkali attack the glass.

Filtration holds back what is larger than the pores and lets the rest through. Paper is the ordinary laboratory filter. A membrane has a stated pore size and a polymer that must survive the solvent. A syringe filter is that membrane in a housing on a syringe. Glass fibre takes a higher dirt load. Ultrafiltration holds back macromolecules and passes salts. The pore size, the chemical compatibility and the volume are the three choices. Laboratory apparatus around filtration is indexed under ISO laboratory apparatus.
