Description

DURAN® filter disc with unfused and centred rim and unfinished surfaces is a porous sintered glass plate intended for laboratory filtration and separation work. Produced from DURAN® borosilicate glass 3.3, the 70 mm diameter disc in porosity class 5 is formed by sintering glass powder of controlled grain-size distribution into a solid yet permeable body. This construction delivers high chemical resistance and is particularly suited to separations involving strong acids or alkalis, offering clear advantages over plastic or paper media. The disc supports vacuum filtration at a maximum differential pressure of 1 bar and belongs to the six porosity classes defined by ISO 4796 and ASTM E128-99. Selecting the correct porosity ensures that the largest pore width lies slightly below the grain size of the smallest particles to be retained. Supplied as a single glass article for further processing from manufacturer Duran/DWK Life Sciences, the unfinished surfaces and unfused rim allow ready integration into custom filter assemblies while maintaining the mechanical integrity required for reliable laboratory use.

This article is part of Sintered glass filter plates & discs, in Filtration.

Questions about DURAN® Filter Disc, sintered glass, edge not fused, centred, surfaces untreated

What is this article?

DURAN® Filter Disc, sintered glass, edge not fused, centred, surfaces untreated is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes DWK Life Sciences for laboratory use. It sits in Sintered glass filter plates & discs, inside Filtration, in Lab consumables.

A sintered glass filter is a disc of fused glass particles with a porosity grade, often 0 to 5, from coarse to fine. It is cleaned and reused. The porosity number, not a micrometre guess, is the specification. Hydrofluoric acid and strong alkali attack the glass.

Filtration holds back what is larger than the pores and lets the rest through. Paper is the ordinary laboratory filter. A membrane has a stated pore size and a polymer that must survive the solvent. A syringe filter is that membrane in a housing on a syringe. Glass fibre takes a higher dirt load. Ultrafiltration holds back macromolecules and passes salts. The pore size, the chemical compatibility and the volume are the three choices. Laboratory apparatus around filtration is indexed under ISO laboratory apparatus.
