Description

DURAN® Filter disc with unfused and centred rim and unfinished surfaces is a sintered porous glass filter plate formed from glass powder of defined particle-size distribution. Manufactured from DURAN® borosilicate glass 3.3, the disc has a diameter of 120 mm and porosity class 4. It is ideally suited for separations involving strong acids or alkalis and therefore offers clear advantages over filter materials such as plastics or paper. The product belongs to a range available in six porosity classes conforming to ISO 4796 and ASTM E128-99; correct porosity selection ensures that the largest pore width lies slightly below the grain size of the smallest particles still to be retained. This glass article is intended for further processing and supports vacuum filtration with a maximum resulting pressure difference of 1 bar. The special design features—unfused and centred rim together with unfinished surfaces—facilitate reliable laboratory use. Supplied as a single piece from manufacturer Duran/DWK Life Sciences, the disc has a net weight of 0,154 kg and a gross weight of 0,164 kg, providing a robust filtration medium for demanding chemical environments.

This article is part of Sintered glass filter plates & discs, in Filtration.

Questions about DURAN® Filter Disc, sintered glass, edge not fused, centred, surfaces untreated

What is this article?

DURAN® Filter Disc, sintered glass, edge not fused, centred, surfaces untreated is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes DWK Life Sciences for laboratory use. It sits in Sintered glass filter plates & discs, inside Filtration, in Lab consumables.

A sintered glass filter is a disc of fused glass particles with a porosity grade, often 0 to 5, from coarse to fine. It is cleaned and reused. The porosity number, not a micrometre guess, is the specification. Hydrofluoric acid and strong alkali attack the glass.

Filtration holds back what is larger than the pores and lets the rest through. Paper is the ordinary laboratory filter. A membrane has a stated pore size and a polymer that must survive the solvent. A syringe filter is that membrane in a housing on a syringe. Glass fibre takes a higher dirt load. Ultrafiltration holds back macromolecules and passes salts. The pore size, the chemical compatibility and the volume are the three choices. Laboratory apparatus around filtration is indexed under ISO laboratory apparatus.
