Description
DURAN® measuring cylinder with hexagonal base, class A, blue graduations and ring graduations is a precision volumetric vessel for receiving and measuring liquid volumes. Made from borosilicate glass 3.3, this 500 ml cylinder is calibrated to contain (In) at a reference temperature of +20 °C and meets class A volume tolerances according to DIN and ISO. Accuracy classes are colour-coded: class A carries a blue scale, while class B uses a white scale. The large hexagonal foot with three base knobs ensures high stability and prevents the cylinder from rolling away. Uniform wall thickness over the full measuring range avoids wedge errors, and the permanently fired blue print remains durable and easy to read, with main-point ring graduations for clear volume assessment. Class A cylinders supplied with a batch number include a batch certificate stating mean value, standard deviation and issue date; certificates are also available online. From manufacturer Duran/DWK Life Sciences, the cylinder is suited to measuring liquid quantities, diluting solutions, mixing components and general volumetric work. To maintain long-term volume accuracy, do not heat these glass products above +250 °C in a drying oven or sterilizer.
This article is part of Measuring cylinders, in Volumetric glassware.

Questions about DURAN® Measuring Cylinder, hexagonal base, Class A, blue scale, ring graduations
What is this article?
DURAN® Measuring Cylinder, hexagonal base, Class A, blue scale, ring graduations is the article on this page. Luminix Health distributes DWK Life Sciences for laboratory use. It sits in Measuring cylinders, inside Volumetric glassware, in Labware.
A measuring cylinder is the tall graduated vessel for a volume that does not need volumetric-flask accuracy. Class A and class B differ in tolerance. Reading the bottom of the meniscus, at eye level, is part of using it.
Volumetric glassware is glass that has been calibrated to contain or to deliver one stated volume at a reference temperature. That calibration is the whole point. Class A and class AS have a tighter tolerance than class B. A volumetric flask contains. A pipette and a burette deliver. A measuring cylinder is the coarser reading, used when the volume is not the result. The classes sit under ISO laboratory glassware. The chain back to the unit of volume is the work of the BIPM and of NIST.
